August 30, 2023 — The Global Catalyst Grant Program has been paused to evaluate program impact. The Center for Global Engagement is working with the Office of the Provost, ORIED and awardees to review the program and determine the best global funding opportunities for the campus community. During the reevaluation process, Center for Global Engagement funding is available for strategic ideas focused on the Sustainable Development Goals and ORIED’s five research gateways. The Center for Global Engagement announces funding for Global Catalyst Programming Grants. These funds will support activities and programs on the University of Tennessee’s Knoxville campus or at the Institute of Agriculture. All supported activities must focus on international content. Further, awards must include campus-based activities that are open and free to UT faculty, staff, and students. That is, activities cannot be part of a class or for a select group of students. Engagement and collaboration with the wider community beyond the University of Tennessee are seen as a plus.
- Maximum funding is $5000.
- Applicants should demonstrate cost-share with at least one other unit providing financial support of the proposed project.
- Only one award per organization, per administrative unit, and/or per person will be made.
- Funding awarded to students will be processed through Financial Aid
- Funds cannot be used:
- to purchase alcohol or capital items
- for research
- for a UT faculty, staff or student member to travel
- Submissions must come from faculty, staff or a student(s) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville or UT Institute of Agriculture.
- Programs must take place between January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023.
- Programming activities must include UT-based activities and is not intended to support programs and activities in international locales.
- Programming grants will not support research projects.

Applications must be submitted through a web form available here. Each proposal must include:
- A title
- A brief program description (25 words or less).
- A program narrative (1000 words or less), including a description of your program that addresses:
- How your program will impact the global profile of the University of Tennessee or the UT Institute of Agriculture, including undergraduate education and/or community engagement and outreach. (A realistic estimation of the number of UT students and/or community members impacted should be provided.)
- A description of how the event will be publicized.
- A timeline (no longer than 250 words): Provide a timeline that outlines the steps you will take to make your program a success.
- An itemized budget. The budget must show how all requested money will be used. Budgets should indicate if other external funds have been secured and how those monies will be used, as well.
- Endorsement letter(s). This letter(s) should indicate the cost share from your department.
- All student organizations must have a letter from their faculty advisor.
- All faculty/staff proposals must have a letter from their department/unit head or dean.
- A list of previous funding received since 2016 under the Ready for the World grant program or the Global Catalyst grants programs.
- A final report must be submitted within two months of the program’s completion.
Report Requirements: The final report must describe the activities and outcomes of the programming. Reports should include the number of people involved in all supported activities. Reports should include the final budget and all itemized receipts for all expenses for which the grantee is seeking reimbursement.
